About Laura
I am a West Coast gal, grew up in San Francisco and did my undergrad at San Francisco State University. I graduated from Samuel Merritt College (physical therapy school) in 1994 with my Masters degree. I started my career at The National Rehabilitation Hospital after finishing a six month internship there. I went on to work in and manage Nova Care Outpatient Rehabilitation in McLean, VA and then partnered with US Physical Therapy to co-own and manage three outpatient clinics in Northern Virginia.
I opened Bodyworks Physical Therapy in 2008 with a desire to do this physical therapy thing a little differently, and maybe because I was having a little mid-life crisis.
The Cool Stuff:
I have loved what I do since I went to school for it. In my own business I get to provide a holistic approach, which means all of you gets evaluated, not just the one part that hurts. This is important because I believe that the body is a dynamic system of parts that all work together for peak performance.
I get to spend enough time with you to figure out why you are hurting AND do something about it. I LOVE watching my clients when a light bulb goes off and they begin to understand something about their body for the first time, or pain that they have had for a really long time begins to go away. I especially love teaching people about the power we all have inside of us to heal ourselves. My passion for this comes from my own journey, during which I started to figure out things like:
* The body and mind are so interconnected that you can not separate physical/emotional pain from your thoughts/worries
*Through present moment body awareness you can begin to transform the way you think and feel…you can heal!
I have a passion for healing. I have a passion for inspiring people to have a passion for healing themselves and living a life that is not restricted by pain, but full of joy. And while I am talking about passions I will share a few others that just take my breath away and give me illegal amounts of happiness…
The martial art of taekwondo – My journey is about to begin when my son and I test for our black belt in December. Read more tales of taekwondo on my blog: www.disciplinethemind.blogspot.com
Horses – When I cantered for the first time I felt like I was a warrior goddess from some other life.
And I believe that when you share your passions and joy with others, from a place of love, you can change the world.
And if you are wondering about the race car picture…yes I learned how to drive a NASCAR about a year ago (gift from my hubby) and it was AWESOME!
